EY Concludes First Edition of Introductory VAT Course

EY Concludes First Edition of Introductory VAT Course

The inaugural edition of EY’s Introductory VAT Course has reached its successful completion, awarding certificates to 16 students.

Commencing this year in October, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of Maltese Value Added Tax (VAT). It caters to both beginners seeking an introduction and professionals looking to refresh their knowledge in the field. Spanning over eight instructor-led sessions and culminating with a written examination, successful completion of all modules grants recipients the MQF Level 6 certificate (2 ECTS) from EY Malta, endorsed by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority.

The primary modules encompass an Introduction to VAT, Treatment of Domestic VAT Supplies, and Cross-Border Supplies focusing on Goods and Services. Additional topics include VAT Refunds, Registrations, Forms, Obligations, and Special Schemes. To be eligible for the final exam in December, attendance of two in-person sessions is mandatory.

Conducted at EY Malta’s Connect Learning Centre, the in-person lectures are helmed by Saviour Bezzina, Senior Tax Manager at EY, and Kurt Cuschieri, Tax Manager at EY. With over 15 years of experience, Bezzina is a certified accountant specializing in VAT consultancy services for a diverse range of local and international clients. Cuschieri, with a decade of involvement in EY’s Tax team, is currently engaged in delivering tax advisory services to local and multinational clients across various sectors, including company setups in Malta, cross-border transactions, and implications arising from changes in tax legislation.

“In light of the success of this endeavor, I’m delighted to announce the launch of the second edition of the Introductory VAT Course. The course’s value has been underscored by the enthusiasm it has generated, further underscoring the significance of a thorough understanding of VAT, whether for aspiring professionals, students, or business owners. In an ever-evolving tax landscape, having a strong foundational grasp can be the differentiating factor for every professional,” said Chris Naudi, Tax Partner at EY Malta.

The Introductory VAT Course is also eligible for the Get Qualified scheme, enabling students to partially recover the costs incurred.
